Hello all!
Now, I mentioned that due to an obscene amount of academic work I wouldn't be updating my blog too often this month. However,I felt a tad guilty that people wold click on blog in anticipation and feel the pangs of disappointment when they see it hasn't been updated. So, I have opted to publish an article I wrote some time ago on the importance of chat box in online poker. I hope you all enjoy it.

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE CHAT-BOX IN ONLINE POKER
Perhaps of all the features of a poker site the chat box is one of the most important: there is nothing more satisfying then typing "broksie woksie" when a delinquent rotter donates his last few dollars of social security money into the taffer foundation.Or indeed, to let out your frustration with a series of meaningful abuse ridden utterances, when a fish of the highest order opts to defy the laws of stupidity with an obscene call.
Yet there is far more importance than one would assume to the power that the chat box holds: you have the possibility to change the dynamics of the table with the very words you type. However, it is of fundamental importance to realise that you have to calculate certain permutations to contextualize how to use this profound power.
When I sit down at a table there are two important factors to consider, is it a tight table? or a loose one?; for the latter I do my my best to displease the players with a series of "TY's" after winning every pot and do my best to goad my opposition with a few of my delightful expressions such as "donkey wonkey" or "fishy wishy", I will in turn raise more pots with marginal holdings and show bluffs. Here I am using the chat to fortify my image as a somewhat of a maniac, this image combined with the loose aggressive nature of the table amalgamate splendidly, and offer a greater chance of a poor call by my opposition when I hit a big flop. This methodology is reversed for a tight table, I will utter "TY's" in a courteous manner and even when an idiot outdraws me Ill type "NH", albeit grudgingly. This reduces the number of rotters who normally would call me down with ace high and hence my win ratio is substantially higher.
So when choosing poker software don't solely consider the lucrative sign up and rake back bonuses.Make sure that the site in question does not have any authoritative chat policies which will see you reading copious emails of "chat revocation" ,"permanent ban" orders, and politically correct "poker managers". They will continually observe and interrupt a process which is of immense importance to online poker profitability.

Taffer I'd advise against playing limit poker at low levels.
The swings are actually greater in limit poker due to the structure of the game (you can get less money in as the favourite). Also there are bots running in a lot of these games, so dealing with the higher variance is tough when a reasonable win rate is hampered so much by the level of rake and opponents who can play close to optimally.
If you are depositing $400 or so I'd play NL25 till I got to six or seven hundo, then NL50 and make the next move at $1k assuming you have a low variance style of play. I'm coming round to the thinking that at the mid stakes a good roll is 30-40 buyins.
